Introduced in June 2017, the Global Talent Stream has allowed Canada to welcome nearly 40,000 newcomers to live there. Of these newcomers to Canada, nearly 24,000 were highly skilled workers in occupations such as computer programming, information system analysis and software engineering.

Canada Global Talent Stream is an immigration program that allows Canadian employers to hire foreign workers to fulfil specialized occupations when they don’t find eligible candidates within Canada.

According to IRCC the processing time for Global Talent Stream is only two weeks so that the immigration can be fast for the employer and for the candidate as well.

Canada Global Talent Stream’s applications are processed under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP), a collection of work permit streams that brings newcomers to Canada on temporary work permits to fill specific labour needs. GTS is the wing of the TFWP for highly-skilled workers in specialized occupations, prioritizing those with experience in engineering and tech-related fields. For those who are working in the field of sciencen, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM), the Global Talent Stream program is a best immigration program for Canada.

The GTS includes two categories. Category A is for employers seeking to hire unique and specialized foreign talent. Category B is for Canadian employers seeking to hire foreign workers for positions belonging to occupations included in the Global Talent Occupation List.

Category A: The foreign worker can apply for work permit under Category A only if the Canadian employer is referred by a GTS designated partner.

The partner will assess factors like:

• Is the employer operating in Canada?
• Is the employer focusing on innovation?
• Is the worker being hired for a unique and specialized position?

Category B

Category B is for employers looking to hire certain highly skilled foreign workers for occupations found on the Global Talent Occupations List, which have been determined to be in-demand and for which there is insufficient domestic labour supply. This list may be updated periodically to respond to labour market needs.

What are the requirements of Global Talent Stream?

• Valid Passport
• Employer Reference Letter.
• Educational Certificate
• Experience Letter.
• Submit biometric fee at the time of e-application
• Obtain biometrics prior to the two weeks elapsing from time of application.
• The foreign worker will not need to additionally apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). It will automatically be issued as part of the application process where applicable.
